Update: First, second-year degree students in Telangana to be promoted to next year

The decision was taken by the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) in view of the lockdown. HYDERABAD: The students who are in the first and second year of their conventional degree courses would be promoted to next year automatically regardless of whether they would pass the examinations, which would be held after the lockdown ends. But the final-year degree students would have to take the examinations and they would graduate depending on their performance.  The decision was taken by the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) in view of the lockdown. According to TSCHE sources, the students of the first and second-year non-professional, conventional three-year degree course need to secure at least 50 per cent of the credits to be promoted to the next year. Hyderabad: The State government has decided to do away with the detention system for the conventional degree courses offered by various universities, this time. This means irrespective of the examinations result, the first-year students will be promoted to second-year, and second-year students will be sent to third-year. They need to clear the backlogs in the next year. However, this provision is not applicable for the final year students. They need to clear all the examinations to qualify for the degree. According to the rules, students need to secure at least 50 per cent of the credits in order to get promoted to a higher class. The government took this decision in wake of extra-ordinary situations arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking to Telangana Today on Wednesday, Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) chairman Prof. T Papi Reddy said degree examinations will be conducted but there will not be detention system for first and second-year students.

Breaking News Regarding The Lockdown PM Modi agrees with states that lockdown should be extended for two more weeks. Several states on Saturday pitched for an extension of the 21-day nationwide lockdown, that was to end on 14 April, during their video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to government officials. While chief ministers of Kerala, West Bengal, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab and Delhi, and governor of Jammu and Kashmir made a case for the extension of lockdown, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy suggested a partial lockdown. States and the union government have to make a crucial decision over the issue of lives versus livelihood during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. States also sought more resources to deal with the health and the socio-economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic and pitched for leveraging Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to counter the same.

Lockdown has saved the country and Telangana, CM KCR hints about extension of Lockdown. Talks about Boston Consulting Group's study which recommends lockdown until June 3rd.
