Aim to be the person who goes "what were you saying?" when someone is interrupted. Aim to be the person who tries to genuinely understand people's point of view. Aim to be the person who smiles when people make eye contact with you. Aim to be the person who actually cares to listen to the answer when you ask people a question. Aim to be the person who waits when you see someone lagging behind the group. Aim to be the person who asks people who seem a bit down whether they want to talk about it. Aim to be the person who invites others to join the group. Aim to be the person who says compliments out loud. Aim to be the person who checks in when someone isolates themselves. People who wait for you to tie your shoe. People who shift closer to you when you're subconsciously moving away while you're walking next to them. People who smile at you as soon as you make eye contact. People who seek you out to tell you some good news. People who listen to you and hear you and understand you. Do not make the mistake of ever convincing yourself that everyone is a bad person when you yourself have done this and not even thought twice about it.

The year of letting go, of understanding loss, grace of the word 'no' and also being able to say 'you are not kind'. The year of humanity/humility, when the whole world couldn't get out of bed. I fall for raw conversation, those in which I know the person is not playing, not pretending to be someone they aren't. I fall for carefree, inadvertent smiles, those which aren't intended to impress another. I fall for what is real, I fall for souls, not the skin carrying it .

It's really comforting to know that all the times  I was at my lowest and loneliest in the past the  whole time i had my self in the future and present  who had survived those things looking back with  love and tenderness and wishing desperately to  offer comfort. I am my own guardian angel and I can use that knowledge when I'm struggling now and remember that somewhere there is a version of me that has survived this and is watching me with love and pride and joy in his heart.
